Challenge

The starting point

Atlas relied on a 14-year-old SAP module for fleet tracking. Reports were nightly, latency was measured in minutes, and the licence cost grew every year.

The team needed real-time visibility for customers without ripping out integrations to dispatch and billing.

Approach

How we worked

We modeled the fleet as a stream — every position, ignition, and door event flows through a Pub/Sub backbone.

Strangler-fig migration kept SAP authoritative for finance while shifting visibility, alerting, and reporting to the new platform.

Customer dashboards use the new event API directly — they're now a feature instead of a quarterly report.

Results

What changed

Customers now see vehicle status in under two seconds. Inbound 'where's my truck?' tickets dropped 67%.

The SAP licence was sunsetted at renewal — saving $2.1M annually.

Engineering velocity quadrupled because the team is no longer fighting batch jobs.
